Everyone knows that college life(for most of us) is all about partying hard, studying even harder (or is it the other way around?), and struggling to pay the bills. As a typical college student, you may be pinching pennie with the rising costs of tuition, so here are five things you should be taking advantage of before your student days are over.

Educational Discounts – Don’t pay full price for software programs and electronics if you don’t need to. Most universities offer a software store for students and faculty where you can get licenses or copies of essential software programs (think Microsoft Office Suite) significantly discounted or sometimes even free. Moreover, some manufacturers (including wildly popular Apple) offer student discounts on laptops and other electronics.

The Campus Library– Believe it or not, the library offers far more than free WiFi and a place to pick up dates. The library is chock full of CD’s, DVD’s, books, magazines, and other media that covers just about anything. Even better, there are people (known as librarians) whose entire job is to help you find everything you might need.

Financial Aid – The government gives out millions of dollars each year to students in need of financial aid. What’s ideal about getting a government subsidized loan is a) you don’t have to start paying it back until after graduation and b) most are offered at an extremely low interest compared to private loans, which can charge 15 percent and higher.

Free iPhone Apps – As all of the iPhone TV commercial attests, there is an iphone app for virtually everything. Furthermore, thousands upon thousands of them are absolutely free and you can find the best free apps by performing a quick Google search.  From free calendars to closet organizers, you can find everything you need to make life easier and stay organized without costing you a dime.

Job Placement Assistance – Many colleges and universities offer employment assistance which is something every student should take advantage of before graduation. The cost is typically included in your tuition and you can work one-on-one with a counselor who can help pinpoint opportunities within your chosen field of study. Visit your school’s career placement center to learn more.
