study abroad Italy excrusion could be one of the most rewarding programs in your entire university life. Italy is one of the top study abroad countries in the world. This country is rich with history, art, cuisine, and home of some of the most welcoming residents you’ll ever meet. In this article we will discuss some of the top locations to go to in Italy and will discuss different cities and regions.

First stop is Rome – Italy’s most popular city. Not only because it is the home of the Vatican, but also because it’s the home of the Ancient Romans. No trip in Rome is complete without a trip to the Colosseum. After that you can visit the Castel Sant Angelo, which is referred to in Dan Brown’s novel Angels & Demons, and can be seen in the film by the same title. Should you want to see how the ancient Romans bathed, then the Baths of Caracalla is not to be missed. If that wasn’t enough, there are also tons of places where you can find incredible pieces of art; one such place is the Vatican Museums. We could discuss the wonderous master pieces for an eternity, yet this is one destination that needs to be seen to be understood. Be sure you don’t leave without stopping by the Sistine Chapel for the magnificent visual splendor of Michelangelo himself, and Raphael’s Rooms to see the apartments that Raphael was commissioned to design.

If Rome isn’t enough for you, then you can always take a trip to Venice. Your first stop should be the amazing piazza San Marco, which contains three of the city’s top destinations: Saint Mark’s Basilica, the Dodge’s Palace, and Torre dell’Orologio. Seeing as though the city was built over water, you should definitely take a trip down the Grand Canal or a few of the other waterways in town. Seeing the city while in a gondola is an experience that should not be missed. Don’t forget to take a break from your studies to try some gelato; after trying this, you may never want regular ice-cream again!

If your major has anything to do with fashion or design, then there is a good chance you’ll wind up in Milan at some point during your trip. Anyone who loves shopping should head over to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele; this grand mall is located in a 19th century palace. The Chiaravalle Abbey is a great place to see for intrepid students. This abbey is still run by monks today, and it has plenty of examples of their lifestyle, both past and present. Nightlife in Milan is something to please any student; you can either ask you new friends where are all the hotspots or head into a club to pick up a free copy of Zero2; a guide to Milan’s nightlife.

For those who would rather study in a particular region rather than certain cities, there are still plenty of options available. One region that many students look forward to is Tuscany, which has some really popular cities: Florence, Pisa, and San Gimignano. Tuscany is famous for its sensational cuisine and charming village towns. You can savor many of Tuscany’s wines such as the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Vernaccia di San Gimignano. You can also head over to Pisa to observe the leaning tower or take it easy at one of Viareggio’s gorgeous coastlines.

Next we have an area for nature lovers. This area is called Umbria – which Henry James described as “the most beautiful garden in all the world.” Just as its name implies, Umbria is a place of shadows. Green foothills, tall mountain peaks, and gorgeous orchards all cast their shadows throughout the land. When you’re done studying you can hike through lush green woods and hills or take photos of brilliantly colored flowers. If this wasn’t enough, this region also has castles, fortresses, and rustic hill towns to visit.

You’ll never run out of places to visit if you go on a study abroad Italy excursion. From Rome to Milan, from the leaning tower to the Chiaravalle Abbey, you will build a wealth of memories that you will never forget.
