   Best way to choose a major/college? Scholarship help?
   I’m a senior in high school now and I’m still undecided as to what I want to do with my life. I’ve been toying with the idea of a surgeon or medical research (stem cells and whatnot). But I’m not confident enough in either of those to set them as my goal in life. Are there any free strengths/career/abilities tests out there to give me a good idea of what I’m good at? Or, tell me how you chose your major, anything helpful in those areas would be great. The pressure is on now and i need to get my act together. Thanks

   Also, I know I’m gonna need as many scholarships as i can get if I’m gonna do anything medical. But i have NO extracurricular activities and while I’m a good student, (GPA is around 3.6), I’m no valedictorian. What type of scholarships should I look for and where’s a good place to start?

   go on college board .com. i swear they will help you, figure out what college you would best fit in, figure out what carrer u can follow and what majors you would need! or go on your highschool website, usually they would have a list of posible scolrships you can apply for, like on the daily bulletin!

   When you are in the course of studies on "good" majors, ones that you will have good financial future with, you can find many sponsors if you have good GPA.

   Also you can check for specific scholarships based on demographics and ethnicity.

   Take a career aptitude test and it will show your strengths and weaknesses. ASVAB test are good if your looking into the military which is a great place to start, large fields of interest and free college money and base pay. Also for scholarships go to scholarships.com or fastweb.com

   First off, you don’t need to decide and plan out your entire future now. Take your time. It’s okay if you don’t know what to do yet. I wouldn’t trust skills tests. Sometimes it’s possible to be very good at something, but that doesn’t mean you like doing it. I know a guy who is very good at math, and would be a good mathematician, but he doesn’t want to do that because he doesn’t enjoy it. The best way to know if you’re meant to do something is to try it out and see if you fall in love with it. Do summer volunteer work at a research hospital and see if you like it. Take classes in biology and chemistry in college (pre-med. classes) and see if you like them. Then take a range of other classes and see what you fall in love with. Once you find something you love, then you will know what to major in. Many people change majors 2-3 times before deciding, and what a freshman says they want to major in will probably change before they graduate.

   As far as financial aid goes, fill out the FASA and CSS profile (if the schools you apply to need it) and see what federal aid you can get. Also, depending on what state you live in, you can get scholarships from your state government. Keep in mind that any school you apply to should offer you a financial aid package of scholarships, loans, and grants to attend. If they don’t give you any money, then you probably don’t want to go to that school. Lastly, a good way to get scholarships is to look for local scholarships from your community. Apply for the $500 ones and look for them in your counseling center and local library. Those small $500 local scholarships can really add up and pay for books.

   For choosing a college, in my opinion there are three major factors. They are size, cost, and distance from home. Decide which the order of importance of the three an go about from there. For example you might like a college but maybe it’s to expensive for you, or further away from home then what you are comfortable with. Other things you should also look into is the other majors the college offers, college open house, take private tours, and also familiarize yourself with the town. Familiarize yourself with things such as the locations of local an state parks, the local stores, clubs, and apartments.

   For choosing majors my opinion is that you should at least narrow it down to two majors. Don’t stress out on the picking your major, cause that could change even when you are in college. Now I’m not saying to put little thought into, but just be aware that when you start college you might start to think this major isn’t for me.
   I recommend using http://www.fastwebs.com/ it contains information on colleges, scholarships, internships, and jobs. You should never have to pay a service for finding scholarships.

   Also speak to you high school counselor(s) about aptitude test, the SAT, the ACT, colleges, scholarships, and picking majors. They should be able to answer almost if not all your questions.

   We had been studying something else about this on another weblog. Interesting. Your perspective on it is diametrically contradicted to what I read originally. I am still mulling more the actual reverse points of look at, however I am leaning an excellent extent toward your. And regardless, that’s what is therefore great about sophisticated democracy and the industry of ideas on-line.
